Hargeisa, Somaliland| The Minister of Interior and Security of the Republic of Somaliland, Hon. Abdalle Mohamed Arab, and the Minister of Energy and Minerals, Hon. Eng. Ahmed Jama Barre, today signed a landmark agreement at the Ministry of Interior and Security to establish a Natural Resources Protection Unit.


The newly established unit will serve as a specialized force dedicated to safeguarding Somaliland's natural resources. Operating under the Somaliland Police Force, the unit will be responsible for protecting the country's abundant natural resources and ensuring their proper monitoring and security.


Speaking after the signing ceremony, both ministers emphasized that the establishment of the Natural Resources Protection Unit addresses a long-standing national need. They noted that Somaliland is endowed with significant natural wealth, making it essential to create a specialized security force to protect these resources and prevent illegal exploitation.


The signing ceremony was attended by the State Minister of the Ministry of Interior and Security, Hon. Cabdirashiid Mohamed Ahmed (Magaalo), and the Commander of the Somaliland Police Force, Brig. Gen. Cabdi Cabdilaahi Xasan (Cabdilaahi-Dheere), who witnessed the agreement between the two ministries.


The agreement marks an important step in strengthening the protection and sustainable management of Somaliland's natural resources, reflecting the government's commitment to preserving the country's strategic assets for present and future generations.
