Hargeisa, Somaliland โThe Minister of Finance and Economic Development of the Republic of Somaliland, accompanied by the Ministry's Director General and the Directors of the Budget, Economic Affairs, and Legal Affairs Departments, today held a working meeting with the House of Representatives' Committee on Economy, Finance, and Commerce. The meeting took place at the House of Representatives headquarters in Hargeisa.
At the outset, the Minister thanked the Committee's Chairperson and members for the strong cooperation and continuous partnership between the Ministry of Finance and the parliamentary committee, emphasizing that this collaboration plays a vital role in strengthening public financial management and supporting the preparation of the National Budget.
During the meeting, the Minister presented a comprehensive briefing covering the country's overall economic outlook, the progress and key stages of the 2027 National Budget preparation process, and the government's revenue and expenditure policies. He also outlined the principal priorities of the 2027 National Budget, which include promoting economic growth, strengthening national security and defense, improving governance and public administration, and expanding social services.
The Minister and the Director General further explained that the preparation of the National Budget is being carried out in full compliance with the Public Financial Management Law No. 75/2025. They noted that the budget preparation timetable is progressing according to the country's legal framework and is guided by the principles of transparency, accountability, and continuous consultation with relevant stakeholders, particularly the House Committee on Economy, Finance, and Commerce.
For his part, the Chairperson of the parliamentary committee commended the Ministry of Finance for its effective cooperation and for adhering to the statutory timetable for preparing the National Budget as stipulated under the Public Financial Management Law.
The meeting concluded with committee members presenting questions and recommendations on the issues discussed, all of which were addressed in detail by the Ministry. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and maintaining regular consultations throughout the preparation of Somaliland's 2027 National Budget.
