Hargeisa – Somaliland’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) today hosted a UK delegation led by Louise Hancock, Head of the UK Office in Somaliland, accompanied by Khadar Muhumed, Head of Political Affairs.
The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation and exchanging information on Somaliland’s electoral development.
The NEC briefed the delegation on plans to implement a modern Electronic Management Information System (EMIS) for voter registration. The Commission said the first phase — a Feasibility Study for the new system — is scheduled to begin this week.
The NEC also expressed appreciation to the United Kingdom for its continued support for voter registration, elections and institutional capacity-building, as well as efforts to advance Somaliland’s democratic process.
The planned modernization of the voter registration system is expected to contribute to a more efficient, reliable and technology-driven electoral process in Somaliland.
