Berbera – A delegation from Ukraine-based RIDNE Food Consortium and the Tony Blair Institute has visited Berbera Port to assess its potential as a regional hub for humanitarian food distribution and explore broader cooperation in Somaliland, the #Somaliland Ports Authority said.
Somaliland Ports Authority Manager Ali Diiriye Ahmed received the delegation and briefed its members on the port’s operations, infrastructure and potential role in regional logistics.
According to the authority, RIDNE’s visit focused on assessing whether Berbera could serve as a hub for importing, storing and distributing humanitarian food supplies to countries across the Horn of Africa, including Sudan and Yemen.
RIDNE Food Consortium brings together agricultural producers and food-processing companies in Ukraine, covering multiple stages of the food supply chain, from production and processing to storage and distribution, the authority said.
Using Berbera as a humanitarian supply hub could further strengthen the port’s position as a regional logistics gateway while providing an additional route for delivering food assistance to conflict- and food-insecurity-affected countries.
Representatives of the Tony Blair Institute also joined the delegation as part of a fact-finding and assessment mission. The institute is exploring potential partnerships and opportunities to undertake activities across several sectors in Somaliland, according to the authority.
